The Tibetan was first recognized in England in the 1800's, but was not recognized in the United States until the early 1980's. Tibetan Spaniels are small dogs with a soft silky medium flat coat. There are several colors of the Tibetan spaniel, including, gold, cream, black, white, red, black and tan, fawn or multi-colored. These dogs were used as watch dogs in monasteries in their early history. They are smart, trusting and very sweet. The average height of the Tibetan spaniel is 10 inches tall and the average weight is 9-15 lbs. It is listed in the category of non-sporting dogs.
